Pomorie

The town was founded under the name of Anhialo at the end of the V century BC. Many of its inhabitants were Thracians. Since its inception until the beginning of the last century it has been one of the most important towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea lands. It reached its zenith development during the Roman occupation. In ancient Anhialo / Pomorie / Christianity permeates as early as the end of the I century. The legend says that the Holy Apostle Andrew on his way to Kiev passed through the Black Sea town being a large administrative and port center within the Roman Empire at that time. The modern town of Pomorie is located on a namesake narrow rocky peninsula, 3.5 km in the Black Sea, on the north-west coast of the Burgas Bay.

Besides its sea beaches, the town offers tourists a variety of local cultural and natural attractions, including the Museum of History, the Museum of Salt, "St. George " monastery, Pomorie Lake Visitor Center - exposure of the natural wealth of the salt lagoon, "Old Pomorie homes " architectural reserve, " Transfiguration " church of XVIII century, " St. Nativity of the Virgin" church of XIX century, the Thracian tomb-heroon.
