Tsarevo

carevo-1The town of Tsarevo is situated on a peninsula. The coastline here is very indented. South of town is Mount Papiya at 502 meters above sea level, with a wonderful view to the coast of Tsarevo and Strandzha coastline. During antiquity a colony named Vasiliko was located here.

In terms of geographic features, the mountain and the sea undoubtedly play an important role in the development of the region. The town has a large international port for middle passenger and merchant ships. There is a traditional local cuisine of fish dishes – such as Sun-dried bonito, salty red mullet, mackerel (formerly of the Black Sea mackerel), soup of turbot head, pickled bonito.

A local landmark is the church "Assumption" rising lonely on the southern peninsula of the town. In the southwest are the two villages Kodolovo and Bulgari, known for the typical fire-dancing. Today they have become a tourist attraction. The date of May 21 has become a custom here when the older fire dancers show their skills.
