Strandzha - rich and magnificent

Strandzha Mountain will welcome you with beautiful views on its paths, it will charm you with its hospitality in all seasons. Choosing your route in Strandzha, you have made a great choice.

The rich cultural heritage and stunning scenery create wonderful opportunities for the development of mountain, ecological and cultural tourism. Here is situated the oldest protected area in Bulgaria – the nature reserve "Silkosia." Here is also the only place in Europe where periwinkle grows - the symbol of the mountain. You can see many other protected and rare animal and plant species in the reserve and natural park of Strandzha. There are many scenic spots here, such as Chuchurinkata area along Veleka River.

The following reserves are situated in Strandzha:

- "Uzunbudzhak", near the village of Slivarovo. This is the largest and most representative biosphere reserve in Bulgaria. It hosts the largest and oldest Strandzha beech and beech-oak forests;

- "Vitanovo"- it has a high value in the environmental protection. Here are located some the most interesting caves in Strandzha;

- "Sredoka", located in the village area of Malko Tarnovo and Stoilovo;

- "Tisovitsa", in the village of Bulgari. This is the newest park in Strandzha (named as such in 1990) in order to protect the beech forests and the formation of Sessile and evergreen shrubs.

This Bulgarian mountain keeps many cultural monuments of the ancient Thracians. At its highest point - the Kamenska Barchina is a Thracian rock sanctuary dedicated to the sun god Helios - dating from 1000 - 1500 BC.

The monasteries Zabernovski “St. Petka”, alias Ograshki and “Balaklia”, and Golyamo Bukovski “St. Petka” alias Kodzhabukski. If you are a fan of rural and ecological tourism, you should not miss to visit the picturesque villages in the region, such as Brashlyan, Bulgari, Fakia, Momina church, Zvezdets, Gramatikovo and many others, preserving the Bulgarian traditions, culture and history, and the many eco trail, including Strandzha mountain trail, eco trail "Veleka", eco trail "Bulgarian Colchis", eco trail "Ancient Bulgarian land", eco trail "Nestinari in Strandzha".

The village of Bulgari is the only Bulgarian village where the tradition of fire feasts typical for the holidays of St. Constantine and St. Helen still exists. The largest settlement is the town of Malko Tarnovo.
