Malko Tarnovo

Malko Tarnovo is located 76 km south of Bourgas and 5 km from the border with the Republic of Turkey. Its population consists of 3527 inhabitants.

It is situated in the heart of Strandzha mountain and all falls within the Natural Park "Strandzha".

In the vicinity of Malko Turnovo are landmarks from the One hundred national tourist sites, historical place called Petrova field. West of Malko Tarnovo rises the highest peak - Golyamo Gradishte. There are also many historical sites of great importance related to the Thracians. A number of monuments were found here - ancient buildings, fortress, ancient temples, revealing the importance of the town during the Thracian and Roman times.

Petrova Field is located 20 km from the town of Malko Tarnovo and it is the place where during the Transfiguration back in 1903 a Congress was held of the Internal Revolutionary Organization of the Bulgarians from Thrace. The meeting supported the Ilinden Uprising and thus initiated the Transfiguration uprising, which aims to annexing Strandzha, Edirne and White Sea Thrace to Bulgaria. The uprising was suppressed at the cost of many human lives. In the late 50s of last century at Petrova Field a monument was built in memory of the leaders who gave their lives for a united Bulgaria. In 2003 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the uprising was built a church dedicated to Saint Petka.
