Bansko

Bansko is located in Blagoevgrad District, in the north foothills of the Pirin Mountains at 925 meters above sea level. The town is 145 km from Plovdiv and 150 km from Sofia.

The climate here is continental with Mediterranean influence, and in the higher parts - mountain. Summer here is short and cool, the temperature is never too high, and the winter is mild, snowy and quite long, as befits a true mountain town.

The greatest wealth of Bansko Municipality is its nature. The town of Bansko is an attractive place for Bulgarian and foreign tourists throughout the year. The town offers many forms of recreation. The popularity of the town inside and outside the country is due to the excellent conditions for skiing combined with distinctive folklore and ancient Bulgarian architecture. Any lover of history can see in Bansko ancient architecture, heroic history, authentic folklore, ancient culture, traditions and customs, special cuisine, incredible humor and rich vocabulary. This Renaissance mountain town is a kind of symbol of the Bulgarian kind. Bansko Municipality has over 130 architectural and historical monuments, 7 of which have national significance. There are more than 100 archaeological sites registered here. Museum complex Bansko has one of the best and well functioning museum networks in the country.

Bansko has 78 km of ski trails, which are treated with snow-clearing machinery, and the ski season is guaranteed from December to May due to snow cannons. The ski area also offers 16 km of ski track, equipped with artificial snow machines, connecting the higher parts of the resort with the town. A cabin lift for 8 people, five 4-chair lifts, one 3-seat lift, six ski lifts and ten children ski are also functioning.

The highest point of skiing is 2,560 meters and the lowest is 1000 m, as the total length of ski runs and roads is 56 km. Of these, 35% for beginners, 40% for advanced and 25% for expert skiers and snowboarders. 80% of the tracks are equipped with artificial snow machines.

In the summer Bansko replaces the ski with a pipe and jazz. A number of events are organized here, such as a summer theater festival, jazz festival "Pirin Sings", festival "Between Three Mountains" and many others which for years have been attracting thousands of visitors. During the Beer Festival in Bansko each year numerous tents are stretched with area of 300 square meters and more than 500 seats. A Theater Festival was for the first time organized in Bansko in 2008 by the idea of the actress Nona Yotova.

All look forward to the traditional Bansko Jazz Festival in August. Summer will not pass without the festival Pirin Folf for Macedonian songs.
